ABOUT CENTRESTAGE CYMRU
Where It All Began...
Thank you for visiting the official Centre Stage Cymru website.
CentreStage Cymru is South Wales' most exciting Performing Arts group. A truly talented cast and phenomenal production team with over twenty years experience in the entertainment industry.
The Society was first put together to perform a fundraising concert for The Dolman Theatre in Newport, and after the sell out performance of 'Sharon & Friends' a second concert was soon organised.
With Myself, Andre Paul Spring & Victoria Bryant at the helm it was decided that the Society needed a better, more permanent name and so on a cold January afternoon in 2012 we sat in Covent Garden and CentreStage Cymru was born
Sharon Fitzgerald Higgins
(CentreStage Cymru Chairwoman)
THE PRODUCTION TEAM
Sharon Fitzgerald Higgins (Ddt Dtlls)
Sharon was a professional dancer and singer but now runs her own dance school and is a BBO examiner. Many of Sharon’s students have gone on to vocational schools or into a professional theatre career. Two students are currently a Jazz scholar within the British Ballet Organisation and attend regular lessons in London. Another student has recently gained a place with the English Youth Ballet, performing in "Coppelia". The school also holds regular workshops for the students with many of the teachers coming from West End shows and ballet companies.
As well as dance, Sharon also runs a children’s musical theatre class, run with André-Paul Spring and Victoria Bryant. All students have the chance to perform in the annual school show at the Dolman Theatre and it’s wonderful to see such amazing talent joining us on stage on a regular basis.
Victoria Bryant MA (Oxon)
Victoria is an accomplished musican and musical director, having worked with many companies, both local and across the country. She was involved with WAWWA for over twelve years, only taking a short break to study for her BA (Hons) in Music at Oxford University. Her passion for music is never-ending, and is a much sought-after Musical Director both locally and across the UK.
Victoria currently works as a primary school teacher as well as acting as MD for Phoenix, Glass Ceiling, and, of course CentreStage Cymru.
Victoria is very proud of CentreStage Cymru for all they have achieved and would like to say a big thank you to the cast for all their hard work. Poppy, Fern and I have thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing with you all.
Peter 'Twiggy' Higgins
Peter’s first experience in both musicals and theatre was as an actor in "The Wizard of Oz" for the Dolman Youth Theatre at the age of 12. He then went on to perform in another show but it was then that he realised he couldn’t sing, act or dance. Hence, his talents transferred to the technical side of the business and has been a recipient of the NODA award for Set Design.
Peter has crewed for Dolman Youth, Newport Playgoers, Cwmbran Operatic and many other amateur societies in Newport. He has since gone on to stage manage many productions in the area but has also stage managed professionally.
